Avaichai

Avichai Scher was born in New York City and raised in Israel. He returned to NYC to study at the School of American Ballet for nearly nine years. Since graduating SAB, he has appeared with nine different companies including The Joffrey Ballet, The Washington Ballet, European Ballet and Ballet British Columbia. He has worked on featured roles with renowned choreographers such as Lar Lubovitch, Michael Smuin, Donald Byrd and Lila York, as well as working with Sir Anthony Dowell. At age 16 he began choreographing at SAB's choreography workshops and soon after he went on to create for American Ballet Theatre Studio Company, San Francisco Ballet School, The Washington Ballet, Sacramento Ballet, West Wave Dance Festival, Harvard University, and Miami City Ballet among others. His work has been called "ambitious" by the New York Times, and "lyrical and ravishing" by the San Francisco Chronicle. In 2005 he was named one of DANCE Magazine's "Top 25 To Watch" and received the Strassler Excellence Award from Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival.
